Bexhill box hunting...

An early start today on the first morning in East Sussex. I took a 15 minute drive and parked up conveniently to take in a nice walk through some woods.

I parked up near this cache This Way or That way by Pomz and made a quick find as it was kind of exposed. I then carried on the walk and began first series of the day.

Ghost of the Bexhill West Railway by bhanacharaid

http://coord.info/GC32HEB

There are 8 caches in this series - 7 traditionals and 1 bonus.
The 7 trads contain info required for the bonus and are collected by walking along the Railtrack trail (Dismantled railway) which is through some lovely woods.

Beginning of a lovely walk.

As the trail was a linear one, I walked it as a circular with other caches to bring me back to where I had parked. There were a few more caches placed by Pomz and 1 by Loopyhoop.

Now where have I heard of 1066 before?

All the caches were ok but the series had definately got the better ones and a nicer part of the walk.
The  bonus one was a great big Ammo can in a really lovely area.

The bonus was round here somewhere!

All in all by the time I was back at the car I had walked just short of 4 miles and loved every minute of it, a really lovely walk.

I love avenues of trees!

Once back at the car I had a quick drink break before repositioning car to walk a little more.

Buckholt Bimble by Pomz

http://coord.info/GC2HJGE

A series of 9 caches  from Sidley upto and around Buckholt Farm. The walk was a pleasant one and the caches were found no problems at all. Most of the caches were film pots  as stated on the listings.

Another neat footpath marker

On the route and after it were other caches by Pomz and I managed to find all of those 2 except for one that gave me the slip.
So overall an enjoyable walk was had. It was now back to the car and back for a days fun with Kate & Ben

In the afternoon Kate and Ben fancied doing a bit of skating down the beach front so we set off from the caravan and they skated to St. Leonards as we picked off some of the caches on the way......

Hastings is at the back somewhere!

My favourite skaters :)

Off darn sarf....

Well today all of our caching crew are off on a Sun holiday to Combe Haven near Hastings. We booked it a couple of months ago so we are looking forward to it very much.

We took the M40 and M25 route down and stopped off to bag a Little Quest cache on the way.

LQ:Buckinghamshire - The Nether Side by Alibags

http://coord.info/GC15HMB

We parked up at end of path in village and I walked 0.5 mile there and back for this one. Although it was another warm day ..the long grass on the path soaked through my mesh on trainers doh.
On reaching GZ it took me a couple of minutes to locate.
Although I enjoyed this one it was not as good a location as others I have done but still nice.

Long grass that soaked my feet!

So that was another Little Quest cache added to my list of finds

We changed over driver for a bit and Kate drove to a nearby drive by series near Thame, it was on the way back to the M40 honest guv!

Lee Park Micro Madness by woowooneenor

http://coord.info/GC2JK9P

A series of 12 tiny caches just a short distance apart, scattered all over Lee Park. These were ideal to do as cache and dashes.
The C/O had just done maintenance on the whole series and even provides pencils at cache 1 for cachers who have forgotten to bring their own....Great stuff.
I found all of the caches no problem at all and although I am not a big drive by fan, I do appreciate the effort Cache owners put in.

It was back on to the M40 and then on to the M25 to continue our journey. Once off the motorways we did a few drive by's that we happened to be passing, one of them being an Off yer trolley one which I bagged while Kate put some more diesel in the car and then we did a bit of food shopping at Sainsburys.

After 10 minutes of leaving Sainsburys we arrived at our destination for the next 3 nights Combe Haven holiday park .
Our holiday home (caravan) was not ready until 4pm so we decided to have a quick drink and sit outside the bar and then have a look round.

Ben "I get coca-cola on holidays!" ;)

This first day was not cold.... I was in a t-shirt, honest!

We had a look round and then at 4pm we went to our caravan which was a luxury model, it really looked lovely apart from all the broken handles.....

Early evening and Kate and Ben decided they would go and take a look at the Roller blading disco on site, so I thought I would nip out and sample some of the local caches.

I managed to bag 10 smilies which were close to the caravan, these were 5 singles and a series of 5 Bulverhythe by Pomz they were all pretty quick finds and 1 of them was a lovely big ammo can

Well as I was heading back I took a phone call off Kate saying there was no Roller Blading tonight.... So back to holiday home now for a Cider and then to walk up to Entertainment complex for a look around......

Brummie Meet 11

Tonight was to be my third Brummie Meet and I was looking forward to it more than ever as the weather lately as been so warm.
I met up with caching partner Jules at the Garden House on the Hagley Road and then we set off into Brum to bag ourselves a few caches beforehand.... as you do.
We started with one of the Ring a Ring a Ring Road series by The Strangler which after initially crossing road and going down to canal we came to our senses and realised where cache was.
We carried on doing 4 more caches, 3 of them being by our friend Paul (Soapy Chickens) and I think the pick of those for me was definately Concrete Corker .... this was a very sneaky hide in the heart of the city.

Well we had bagged a few and it was now time to head off to the meet.

Brummie Meet 11 - The Sun On The Hi11 by RattyFella

http://coord.info/GC3DWQF

This brummie meet was at a new venue, a place that I have never been before. It felt a lot more welcoming and there was more room for us to freely move around at chat to others.
We had upstairs on the mezzanine floor specially for us box hunters and it was great to chat with friends and say hi to others I had not met before.
Mark (Rattyfella) did a great job with sorting the meet out and even got some nibbles laid on.
Jules and I stayed there for a couple of drinks and then decided to go and bag a few more city centre smilies.

We first grabbed Pointless Passage  a multi by Mumbo Jumbo which wasn't too difficult once we knew where it would be.
We then went to another MJ cache Maiden in Distress .... a very popular cache in a very very busy area. I had already done it but it was a lot of fun watching my buddy look for it.

We then moved down to Birmingham Gateway by Soapy Chickens... This was placed in a very busy part of town but thankfully not too hard to find.

Birmingham Gateway

We then moved on to the last cache of the night Bennetts Bouncer  by The Strangler. We bumped into Ash (Monki) on the way there so we all searched together and after a couple of minutes Ash found it.

So off we went into the night and another night in Birmingham was over for now.

Fibbersley

Well seeing as the weather has been so fantastic lately myself and Mrs BCC thought it would be a nice idea to get out and meet up with some buddies for a spot of caching.

We met up with [monki], Citrus-Lizard & thehorde to do a series around Fibbersley Park.

Fibbersley by The GeoTracker

http://coord.info/GC3ETY1

A series of 9 caches that take you on a circular walk of approx 2 miles around Fibbersley Nature Reserve.
Fibbersley is one of Walsall's finest wetland sites. You'll find it in Willenhall, on the western edge of the borough, close to the boundary with Wolverhampton. Car parking is available off Noose Lane, next to Willenhall Memorial Park. You'll find a network of pools of various sizes, which are home to a variety of aquatic life, from insects like diving beetles and dragonflies, to amphibians.
Ben being a boy!
The hides were quite varied but nothing that we struggled to find, which of course is what we all like.
We were at this park a couple of weeks ago and as we liked it so much it made it an easy decision to return.
We had plenty of fun and happenings, firstly Ben fell out of a tree but thankfully he only recieved a few grazes. We all enjoyed going down a steepish dirt track and of course we loved the follow the needle through no matter what gets in our way.

All "the boys" together ;)

A fab day was had by all in this spectacular weather for march.

On the way home we bagged a few drive by's to make todays smiley count = 13.

Up North

Well another epic day was had by myself and caching partner Jules. Today we headed up North and I was picked up by Jules at around 7am. First on our itinery today was another of the Little Quest series.

LQ:Staffordshire - Ancient Oasis by Dibbler + Dulin

http://coord.info/GC154YC

All the way up the M6 on the way to this one it was really foggy but thankfully it cleared just before we arrived around 8am at suggested parking.
It was a pleasant walk in Hem Heath & Newstead Woods and the pond area close to GZ looked really nice with the early morning mist over it.

Eerie pond!

Jules with the cache!

Well that was our first cache out the way and a thoroughly enjoyable one too. Now it was time to head back to car park and head off to first series of the day.

Betley Wander by  browni

http://coord.info/GC2HG1Z

A nice little series of just over 3 miles around the village of Betley. There are 15 caches in the series and another one to pick up on the route.
There are a few stiles and also cattle on the trail although we didn't see any cattle today.

Along the way.

We parked up at the pub the Hand and Trumpet and began the series at cache 7 walking the route in ascending order. All the caches were pretty easy to find except for one hidden in a gorse bush and cache 13 which we knew before leaving that it wasn't there as I had arranged with the C/O Ian that I would help out and place a temporary cache and log for him.

One of the stiles close to the boggy ground.

The walk was generally very easy but it will be very muddy at certain times of the year in low lying places around a mere between caches 10 & 12.

We had a coffee break once back at the car and a bite to eat to keep our energy levels up. It was then time to take a short drive to our second series of the day.

'Old Macdonalds Farm' by peteann

http://coord.info/GC2WDPG

A series of 17 caches which are made up of 16 traditionals and 1 bonus. We also took in an extra 5 caches which were sort of on the route or needed a slight diversion, a few of these were picked up by moving car.
The walk was mostly easy going but can be muddy at certain times of the year, we passed cows and horses at times but didn't encounter any trouble.

A lovely sunny day, just a little hazy.

The walk was very enjoyable especially at side of woods where we stopped for a chill and drinks break, all the caches were relatively easy.

The Magic tree!

Lovely area!

So after enjoying the second series and having a bag of chips in the village, it was time to move on to the last series of this sunny Spring day.

Hanchurch Hills by Cannonedwards

http://coord.info/GC2FTF5

A series of 12 caches with another 4 a short diversion away or on route. Picking up all 16 caches will take you on approximately a 4 mile walk and take around 2 hours..

A bit hazy, but Newcastle & Stoke are over there somewhere!

The walk is through some lovely woods and was very much enjoyed by both of us, the caches were in good state of repair and mostly easy to find.
One of the caches on route but not part of the series was the 6 year old Tree's a Crowd by The Beady Bunch (adopted by Hampk) which we both thoroughly enjoyed.

Feeding the birds?

Another cache in interesting surroundings was Little Man Guarding Tower by The Wotsits. There was a nice old tower nearby.

The tower!

Well thats pretty much it. Another fun filled days caching in the lovely sunshine.

A day round Knowle

Another Friday outing and today I wanted to go back over around Knowle so I had sort of planned a walk that I was going to do which would incorporate a Copt Heath series with a few others and then A Webbie Walk series.

I got up early and arrived at a decent parking point at around 7am to start the walk.

I started off the day visiting a solved puzzle and then on to 2 Wychwood caches which were all quick finds and put me in the mood for the day. I carried on and then got to the first series of the day.

Copt heath by hobzie

http://coord.info/GC3E7HX

A small series of 6 caches set around Copt Heath golf club, taking in almost 2 miles.
The terrain and caches were nice and easy and set in a linear fashion and in no time at all the series was in the bag.....

I carried on with the walk but working my way back round to almost where I had began and took in a few caches until I reached second series of the day......

Church in Knowle.

A Webbie Walk by The Webbies

http://coord.info/GC33B5J

A walk of approximately 4.5 miles with 14 caches between Knowle and Barston, taking you along parts of the Grand Union canal and the surrounding countryside.
This really was a very nice walk in a lovely area. All of the caches were relatively easy to find although I did need to PAF Allun (Shropshire Seekers) on one of them.

Lovely area not far from cache I needed a PAF on!

The weather was pretty good and totally dry which always makes the walk more enjoyable, oh and some of the houses were so beautiful with the owners having cars to also match their status.....ie Ferrari and Porsches.
Whilst doing the walk there were a few other caches on route which of course would've been rude to omit.

By Rich dude territory!

Well this fantastic walk had to come to an end, so it was back to the car and off to do some more.

I had some time to spare before meeting up with caching partner Jules so I did some drive by's and a puzzle series by the Webbies .....  Architectural Britain
I had solved the puzzles at home and today I collected them....well I almost missed one but got there in the end.

Not really a spoiler but Architectural Britain series was here....

Early in the afternoon was time to go and meet caching partner Jules, so I drove over to meet her to have a gander at a couple more Special Ops caches by AirEd this time.

Special Ops Oscar

http://coord.info/GC3DCBQ

We had already completed all the Special Ops to date except for 2 by AirEd and 1 by Homer Trackers, so today we wanted to get the AirEd ones.
We parked up opposite this one and we had a good idea on which tree we needed to climb but could not see any sign of the cache so decided that as we were both not fantastic tree climbers that we would call a finder just to confirm that we had the correct tree....while we were doing this we walked down the canal to do some puzzle caches and another trad.
After Paul (Soapy Chickens) had confirmed we had correct tree Jules did the honours in climbing up to retrieve cache and then I myself climbed up too....I only did it as it wasn't as high as I thought it might be.
After completing this mission we moved on to the next one....

Special Ops Romeo

http://coord.info/GC3DCGM

We repositioned car for this next challenge which this time involved going into water, hence the requirement of specialist equipment.
This one was soon complete but a lot of fun.

Just one more to do now but that can wait till another day...

Another brilliant day complete. I have took in a very scenic series, had lots of fun on a couple of "more to it" and got some good numbers.

BBW

This week, I set off with Neil (Thornicus) and Jules of the bedfords for a very long day…

Neil kindly offered to drive this week, and so picked Jules up first and then collected me at about 7am. Some new caches had been published the night before by Soapy Chickens and as the FTFs still appeared to be up for grabs, we decided to see if we could grab these, before heading up to Cheshire to do the three series (plus extras)that we had planned for the day.

OMG Series by Soapy Chickens
So, after a bit of logistical chat on the way, we pulled up as close as we could to one of the caches and started the hunt – after a few minute Jules found the cache…anxious moments as the log book was unfurled – Yes! First to Find on this one at 7.30am. Good to start the day well and it was my 200th FTF too! We got a second FTF on another cache, but then found that Andy of Catshill Clan had beaten us to another 3. We combined forces for the bonus which proved quite a challenge, but eventually Thornicus came up with the well hidden cache. 3 FTFs and it wasn’t even 8.30! This was a fun little series, one to be enjoyed by all the family and it was nice to get out and bag the caches of a local caching friend – well done Soapy Chickens – we enjoyed this.

3 FTF's bagged, now off to Cheshire.

Then it was back to the car and off up to Cheshire where we planned to hit 3 series which came highly recommended, as well as the well known Bomber Command and finally, ending with the Beeware nightcache. It was going to be a long day…

Bishop Bennet Way Series 2 by Zeus55

http://coord.info/GC2PNPR

23 smilies over 5.5 miles

We decided to do the second BBW series to start with – this being the first one we would get to. Nice easy parking close to the first cache, where we bumped into a big family group who were just about to start the same series. We exchanged a few pleasantries and then headed off at quite a pace. This was a very enjoyable series, with some innovative and interesting hides, even terrain and through some lovely countryside. The only downside was the amount of stiles, many of which are not dog friendly, although the cache owner does clearly point this out on the caches pages, so no grumbles from us here, but just something to be aware of.

Badger, Badger, Badger!

It was Neil’s first big day out caching and he very quickly got the idea of what lay ahead on him…basically pretty fast pace and a LOT of larking around, but he entered into the spirit of things and seemed to be having fun.

A nice shot at the Bonus!

We completed the series in about 3 hours and made a quick detour across the border into Wales to grab a cache that would colour in another county for us all. This was Holt castle, and we parked up in a really nice little village and walked the 500 yards down the GZ. I quickly scrambled up the bank and grabbed the cache. The castle might have looked a bit more special in its day, but after several centuries of abandonment is now looking rather sorry for itself.

Holt Castle

After a short break in the village (where Jules managed to get herself locked in the loo at a local teashop!) we got back in the car and headed off to do BBW3 series.

Bishops Bennet Way 3 by Zeus55

http://coord.info/GC3E27D

24 caches in total on this series.
We knew this was going to be a great series when the first cache was a really innovative hide, so raring to go we headed off. We weren’t at all disappointed as all of the caches were really well thought out and it was clear that the CO had clearly gone to a lot of thought and effort to plan and place this series. Many of the caches had a twist to them, some of them were nicely crafted and some of them were just very cheeky. We all especially liked one of the caches where the clue item had us convinced we were looking for a specific item whereas we were actually looking for something of the same name but which we had not even contemplated - I’ll say no more, but you’ll know which cache we mean if you do the series! Again, the terrain was quite even and the paths well marked, so we were able to maintain a pretty good pace, which got even quicker when we got caught in a rain storm (shame we had decided to leave the waterproofs in the car - doh!). It took us under 3 hours to complete the 5 miles. Many fave points awarded by us all for this series - very enjoyable and one that we would recommend.

1 smiley cacher :)

Another smiley cacher!

Sadly, time was running ourt on us and we made the decision that we would have to drop the final series of the day - a real shame, but if we wanted to do Bomber Command and Beeware, we needed to move on. Not before stopping for a few drive bys, a quick drink in a walker friendly pub and a pie and chips tea which we ate in Neil’s car and which he can still smell to this day!

A lovely spot

Preparing for their punishment!

Then it was off to Bomber Command, which I have already done, but which Jules and Neil hadn’t. This cache, owned by Bolas Heathens, is in a derelict airfield, where you can explore the old buildings. A bit spooky but really interesting. We had a good look around by torchlight (for extra spookiness!) and then went on to find the cache. Jules needed a bit of a boost to get it, but we flexed our muscles and she managed to grab it!

Then it was off to the Beeware night cache, another cache that I had already done, but one that I knew Jules and Neil would love.

It was well and truly dark by the time we parked up to start this one and we headed off into the woods very much looking forward to the task ahead of us. I must admit that we made plenty of wrong turns and wrong decisions and I think our long day was starting to take its toll on us. But, ever the troopers, we persevered, back tracked, tried again, and eventually found ourselves at stage one. A long search followed with much head scratching but eventually we located what we were looking for. Much amusement as we recovered the info we needed and then onto stage 2 where we did much of the same - wrong decisions, backtracking, going round in circles. After I made a PAF to the CO we realised we were literally a few yards away from the final stage which we made our way too with a mounting sense of accomplishment and relief!

Neil bravely recovered the required item and also opened the cache box...very impressive display indeed and very inventive. Log book was duly signed, photos taken and we then trudged back to the car, happy to have done this and happy to be heading home at the end of a very, very long day.

I got home at about 11pm, Jules at 11.25pm and poor old Neil - well, let’s just say it was almost Sunday by the time he got home!

Elmdon Park

Well another Friday has turned up and so another days caching. I awoke at 5.50 am and was at first cache of the day at around 7am.

LQ:WEST MIDLANDS - The road to nowhere by OldNickCov

http://coord.info/GC1669A

I have been doing some of the Little Quest series of late with caching partner Jules and today as I was close to this I decided to pick it up. I parked up at end of road and then walked the rest of the way.
The cache located in Meriden is believed to be the centre of England...Always nice to take a History lesson when Geocaching..

After this I picked up a couple of drive by's before parking up on a Church car park in Elmdon Park.
The park is very close to big roads and Birmingham International airport but it really is a lovely pleasant area.

I started off doing some caches on car park side of church, picking up caches by Aramis144, matlou98 and part of a Tree series by Family B.

There was a cache up a tree right by this.
The caches were all straightforward except for one perhaps which was up a tree, infact I did not attempt that one as there were just too many muggles around. I will have to go back there with Ben and create a distraction hehe.

Down stream side.
The park really is ideal for families and good to mix the Geocaching with playtime too.
After I had managed to get all the sperate caches I decided to keep car where it was and attempt the Spotted Trail series by R&T with M&T. It was a fun little series apart from #1 being missing at the time.

I had enjoyed myself round here very much and will need to pop back for a couple. I think Ben would love the walled garden.

The Walled garden!

I did a few more drive by's and then parked up for a bit of a walk along the canal. My objective here was to pick up a TB owned by caching partner Jules and to take it on its travels for a while.
The cache was Bridge 80 by matlou98 and it was a real sneaky hide and took me a couple of minutes to locate.

Canal side

After lunch I had arranged to meet up with some caching buddies and do the Wast hills walk.

WHW 1 by Lime Candy

http://coord.info/GC3CYXH

The walk is approximately 3.5 miles long taking in 10 caches on the way. The terrain is pretty good but can be muddy in places especially after rain....of course.!

This is a lovely walk with some really fab views of the city, was just a shame it wasn't just a little bit clearer. The walk also takes you over the top of the Wast hills tunnel.

The team for the series was AirEd, Catshill Clan, the Bedfords, Turnbull Tribe & of course myself.

The rest of the team!

Baaaa!

None of the caches posed any difficulty in finding really but could see a couple maybe cause a few probs for some.

As we were having so much fun we decided that we should carry on the walk and do a Letterbox hybrid called Stagecoach Stash by Steve-e-b and Marina. This was very enjoyable and different in many ways but don't want to give anything away.

Another fantastic days caching and another 39 smilies bagged.
